In 1596, the Carvajal family was executed by the Inquisition in New Spain. Their names were nearly erased.

Centuries later, Sarah, a young museum curator in Texas, uncovers a prominent family’s colonial past—and a presence that refuses to remain silent.

Moving between present-day archives and the fires of the past, The Hidden Flame explores secret faith, buried histories, and memory’s power to defy erasure.

Some histories refuse to disappear. Some flames cannot be extinguished.

Inspired by the documented history of the Carvajal family.
