D.L.W. Butler has always been fascinated by the stories that are never told—the whispered conversations, forgotten names, unanswered questions, and hidden truths that shape families long after those who lived them are gone. His passion for history, genealogy, and the resilience of ordinary people inspired him to spend years researching, writing, and breathing life into a story that explores not only where we come from, but who we become because of it.

An educator by profession and a storyteller at heart, Butler believes every family carries a legacy worth preserving. His debut novel, A Feeling That I Belonged, blends history, suspense, and deeply human emotion into a sweeping multigenerational saga that invites readers to confront love, loss, identity, forgiveness, and the powerful bonds that connect generations across time.

Released in conjunction with and in celebration of his son's eighteenth birthday, the novel is both a deeply personal labor of love and an invitation for readers to reflect on their own family histories. Butler hopes the story inspires conversations, heals old wounds, and encourages others to ask the questions that previous generations never had the chance—or the courage—to answer.

When he isn't writing, Butler enjoys making music, serving in his church and community, researching historical records, and spending time with the people who remind him every day why stories matter.

He believes the stories that shape us are often the ones that were never written down. Through his writing, he hopes to preserve those voices, honor those who came before us, and remind every reader that understanding our past is often the first step toward understanding ourselves.
