Introduction
This book is a life construct, something that may be too easily categorized as self-help, personal development, or even autobiography. However, I see it more as an exploration of themes, a collaboration of metaphors, and a genre-defying work with a touch of creative nonfiction flair. A reflective blend of personal narrative, self-discovery, and lived wisdom, part memoir, part guide, and entirely authentic. Motivating but not overly motivational. Infused with a lived experience, blending personal narrative with universal lessons, but not autobiographical. A mentor’s guide to authentic engagement. Chaperoning you on a journey towards building a meaningful life, both personally and professionally, while demystifying purpose and honoring the true value of peace.
This book is a reflection on the measure of a complete and beautifully imperfect life, as illustrated through my own vulnerabilities, shared experiences, thoughts, and reflections on life’s lessons. I hope to inspire thought and encourage readers to be enlightened by their own thoughts, enriching themselves and cultivating personal growth. Through stimulated reflection, this book aims to peel back the layers of a past life, address unconquered fears, awaken unexplored ideas, and spark a resurgence of unfulfilled dreams.
I believe that we all have a path, and it is our journey to find our way onto that path. I believe that everyone has a unique gift or talent within them. Even if it is suppressed, each of us is aware of it. It almost seems as if there is a warning indicator emitting an oscillation signal within us. An on-board navigation system that sways us to course-correct when we veer or venture off too far during our instinctive journeys. A successful journey appears to be rooted in victory and triumph, but what did we conquer if accomplishments prevent us from being our whole, complete, best, unmasked, authentic selves?
For generations, professional success has been synonymous with wealth and power. However, do wealth and power require sacrifices or are sacrifices prematurely forfeited? When we experience consequential success because of the extremes we are willing to endure, we willfully use less and less of our gifts and talents. As that utilization diminishes, we accept it in sacrifice for a healthy income, and we become intoxicated by notoriety and pride; accolades and accomplishments can be addictive. Although never fully acknowledging whether a decision along the way is right or wrong, favorable, or unfavorable, signs are somewhat subliminal. You sense it, you feel it, but you pay little attention. Being your best self leverages your distinctive assets.
Picture this: you are driving in your car, and you transition from a feathery smooth ride on a modern concrete-paved road. Things seem to change, you then find yourself driving on centuries-old cobblestone or graveling asphalt pavement, each coarser than the road before. The road becomes rougher than expected, and you recognize it; you briefly pause for a split second, but you stay on course and try to keep the same speed as you tighten your grasp on the steering wheel. It grows uncomfortable, so you reduce your speed and decide to change lanes. After a while, you realize that your course correction has had more than just an impact on your speed; the lane delineation becomes blurred, and you are slightly, yet constantly, veering to the right, instinctively seeking a smooth road that has led to an unexpected destination. Your intended path to go west has shifted to the southwest.
Is that your life? If the road first traveled was not so subliminal, would you recognize it? Have you drifted between lanes unconsciously? Have you intentionally moved into the slow lane to avoid rough conditions? Did you recognize that you exited the highway because your lane had ended? Are you unconsciously on an alternative route? Are you on the right path? What is your path?
More often than not, the road less traveled is the one intended for you, but it does not have to be difficult or overly challenging. Metaphorically, the cobblestones and bad asphalt are life lessons and character builders; however, throughout the entire journey, poor roadways can be avoided, and the road to prosperity, peace, and enlightenment can be a smooth and pleasant experience.
Visualize a wide, bright, well-lit smooth paved road, cambered with the convexity for optimal drainage, high speed guard rails in place to manage road hazards and unfavorable travel conditions, all curtailed by a forward-thinking traffic engineer who is planning and design efforts mitigate rough conditions so that you traverse swiftly and safely regardless of your mode of transportation, weather conditions, or speed. What if life could be that easy? What if you had a mentor or a trusted advisor in your life acting as the forward-thinking traffic engineer guiding you on the high-speed terrain-altering journey of life? Isn’t that the support we all deserve?
Be prepared for the frequent use of similes and conceptual metaphors. It is intentional; this book will weave life lessons, career guidance, and principled ideologies with decades-long-standing proven systematic driving characteristics, route preparation planning techniques, and logistical best practices used by industry-leading Fortune 500 companies in an unorthodox approach to allow people to requisition control over their destiny by simply giving in to becoming who they are meant to be. Through abstract phenomena, this book aims to provoke thought and enhance cognitive and expressive capacity through incremental, emblematic perceptions. For some, a sensory awakening to cognitive dissonance.
We all feel some level of cognitive dissonance, but not everyone recognizes it. Truth may be trivialized by dissonance, be it cognitive, affective, or emotional. There is value in truth.
This book will explore the synergy between truth and peace. I have found that as the value of truth grows or wanes, internal peace assimilates. Finding peace is a monumental accomplishment; I value it. Finding it and living it is as triumphant as achieving any level of academic or professional success. How valuable is a person’s ability to live their purpose in peace? Does peace require sacrifice, or is it surrendered prematurely? Know that living your peace can be concrete and solid beyond an abstraction like time. From a philosophical standpoint, the existence of time raises intriguing questions about its true nature.
As humans, we have devised ways to understand occurrences in relation to duration; therefore, I believe that time is an abstract concept, dreams are abstract, and ideas and notions are also abstract—the products of a human construct. Born from thought, our ability to sense and feel things hoped for is psychologically phenomenal until we see the manifestation of said dreams and ideas materialize fantastically into something tangible, physically. Setting a path to understanding your purpose allows you to take control over your inevitable path to peace and transform a phenomenal experience into a state of consciousness—the fruitfulness of living. Let us not overthink peace and purpose. Let us simply demystify them as the pursuit of tranquil cognition and affirmed direction congruent with unique strengths. If you are willing, let us prepare for the ride of your life.
