Lorraine M. Hutton was born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. She lived part of her life in a boarding school that was affiliated with nuns and priests. She was so enthralled with that lifestyle that she at one point wanted to become a nun. She worked as a secretary for many years before she immigrated to the USA in 1989 and became a citizen in 1994.
She has one son, Dominic, whom she loves dearly.
