About the Author
Matthew Brooks is a successful dentist with a gambling problem. His dental assistant, Sylvia, offers a solution to his financial problems—kill her abusive husband (Ron) and split the large insurance policy. Matt reluctantly agrees to the plan but insists each sign a confession and give it to the other to avoid throwing each other under the proverbial bus if they are caught. Matt comes up with a clever murder plot but decides he can’t go through with it. Ron dies under suspicious circumstances anyway through his own misadventure but there is a trail back to Matt. The investigating detective is convinced that the dentist had a hand in Ron’s death and pursues him relentlessly.
Matt is desperate to destroy his confession which would likely place him on death row for a crime he didn’t commit. He asks Sylvia to return his confession but is told it has been lost. It was in a hidden compartment of a desk which was sold and resold at auction. Assisting Matt in his search for the desk is beautiful Carolyn Hodges, a recent acquaintance, who has a secret of her own. They fall madly in love, but each must resolve their pressing issues before their relationship can bloom. Together, they search for the desk, desperate to find it before the determined detective. The reader will be delighted with the surprise ending in this fast-paced romantic mystery.
