Tony Hanks, OAM
Tony Hanks lives on the east coast Australia and has experience with Gouldian finches over a period of 50 years.
As a teenager he was introduced to aviculture with Zebra finches and soon graduated to what were then seen as “more difficult” Gouldians.
Over the years Tony has constructed aviaries at five different locations as he moved house and each of these was designed for the specific needs of Gouldians. As he progressed from one to another his knowledge grew as he learned from the advice of colleagues and the experience gained.
He holds two professional degrees in science, including a doctorate. One area of interest from his academic background is the study of genetics and inheritance, which is very relevant to the breeding of Gouldians.
In 2010 Tony Hanks was recognized in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for “services to the community” by the Governor General of Australia.
Tony Hanks has had many articles and papers published internationally.
